Distance Loop is configured like a cloistered garden. Inspired by “La Chasse à la licorne” or “The Hunt of the Unicorn,” a series of European tapestries dating from the late Middle Ages. The tapestries illustrate a tale of a unicorn that is captured, killed, and supposedly, ends somehow contented in its confinement. This work led me to question the garden as a space of enjoyment healing or safety. What happens to the sense of connectedness that seems like it should be innate, is dictated by a force outside of your control. In these works I explored the push and pull of control, connection to a garden, being held and holding on.
