Heirloom Series 2018- ongoing

Scagliola, iron rod, jewelry chain

Hand Me Down begun in 2018 is an ongoing series of sculptural objects made with pigmented plaster, iron rods, and jewelry chains to explore intimacy and distance in familiar associations with a focus on matrilinear dynamics. ( full text available upon request)

This is an ongoing project.

DESCRIPTION: A collection of sculptural objects in the shape of mouths interlock and hang from iron hooks that attach to the ceiling. The objects vary in scale in relation to each other. They are made with a material that feels and looks like multi-colored marble; the patterning resembles a blend between stone and painting and they possess a highly polished appearance. Some of these handing mouths have a jewelry chain that hangs out of an opening and some hang from thick chains and are in a row of multiples that ascend upward. Additionally, there is a mouth-shaped artwork that has a pink mirror inside the open lips.
